This a tutorial video on how to calculate mean, median, and mode.
- What kind of interaction would the video require from your students? Does it force them to respond in some way (inherent)?
This video does not interact with students in any way. It does not force them to respond in some way as well. This tutorial video is designed into animation, which make it fun to watch. As a learner, I would found myself be more interactive with video content when watching this type of video.
- In what way are they likely to respond to the video on their own, e.g. make notes, do an activity, think about the topic (learner-generated)?
They likely to respond to the video if they are assigned to some activities in the end of video, such as measure the average height of the family members. In addition, if they are asked to reflect mean, median, and mode on real world problems and comment below the video, they are interact with the material. For example, ask can you think about where you often hear the word “average” measurement, such as on the news, at school.
- What activity could you suggest that they do, after they have watched the video (designed)? What type of knowledge or skill would that activity help develop? What medium or technology would students use to do the activity?
I would suggest them to measure the average height of the family members and calculate it using a calculator. Assign a quiz with some real world problems for them to practice. Quiz can be formed using quiz maker, such as Kahoot, Wordwall. Though out the quiz, learners will have a better understand on the content, and being able to clarifier with instructors if they have any questions. In addition, I would ask them to write a self-reflection of what they learned and the questions they may have in a discussion forum.
- How would students get feedback on the activity that you set? What medium or technology would they and/or you use for getting and giving feedback on their activity?
For online quizzes, both the feedback and the explanation are provided immediately after they have completed the quiz though quiz maker they use. For the discussion forum, both instructors and peers have access to them, they are able to respond to others’ posts.
- How much work for you would that activity cause? Would the work be both manageable and worthwhile? Could the activity be scaled for larger numbers of students?
Building quiz on the quiz maker is very simple. The work is manageable and worthwhile. Everyone will have access to the quiz and be able to participate. Reading through the discussion forum and respond to them maybe a heavy work. However, since their peers can also give responds to all posts, questions and concerns can be answered by their peers as well. It is a great opportunity for learners to interact with their peers. I think the discussion forum is both manageable and definitely worthwhile.
